It's Kate Ferrari's first day as the State Coroner. She is faced with a bombing, a head-on collision which killed three children, a marriage that has almost fallen to pieces and Trimble, the Deputy Coroner who wants her job.
A Bit of Asthma
Kate investigates the death of an asthmatic 4 year old who died from an unknown cause. A new face joins the team and Trimble is fascinated by a 60-year old corpse that was found in the country.
The Price of Success
While Kate is attempting to fix her failed marriage, she investigates the unexplained death of a famous television host. Trimble inquires to the 'accidental' death of a teenager, who was spraying graffiti in a warehouse at the time of his death. And Dermot is faced with personal problems when forced to work with Senior Constable Liz Mason.
Coming to Grief
Frank Kelso, the Attorney General, clashes with Police Minister Mills over the death of a young bridegroom, who died as a result of a high-speed car chase involving a kid. Meanwhile, Trimble has trouble investigating a house fire involving an elderly Italian woman, who doesn't speak English.
Final Approach
A pilot tries to save his passengers after crash-landing due to faulty equipment. Kate finds a lump on her breast and is launched into a panic attack. Trimble receives an anonymous tip-off that the body of a crafty criminal is under a concrete slab. Meanwhile, Julie and Liz aren't getting along at work.
Shortcut to Death
Kate looks into the death of a fork-lift operator who had a questionable record concerning safety. Trimble investigates the death of a young cerebral palsy sufferer who died whilst taking a bath. Liz and Dermot's relationship is brought back alive. And Kate gets her breast lump cut off, and anxiously waits for the results.
Partings
Sharon is plagued with personal problems when Trimble investigates the death of her former boyfriend. Kate and Dermot work together after a woman inquired about her ill sister's early death. And Kate decides how to deal with her crumbling marriage with Hugh.
A Question of Experience
Trimble looks into a deadly nightclub beating that was recorded by the security cameras. And Paul faces a moral conflict when he knows the leading suspect in Kate's inquiry of a student who died after a bush-walking party.
Truth and Circumstances
Kate investigates the death of a girl who supposedly was led to suicide after being apart of a cocaine ring. But while investigating this, she steps on a few toes including Kelso who knows someone involved with the inquest. Meanwhile, George and Trimble investigate the death of a baby, but it's made hard when the parents won't ask for an autopsy in accordance with their beliefs.
Conflict of Interest
After the death of the main suspect in Kate's inquest in the previous episode, she finds herself in hot water with Kelso, her own relationships and even the Government. Meanwhile, Trimble investigates the death of a young boy who died at a building site while being chased by a policeman.
Dance 'Till You Drop
Whilst investigating a young girl's death that occurred at a dance party, Kate starts asking her daughter Claire personal questions. Daniel and Sharon join Trimble in the bush for an inquest into the death of a truck driver. But what Trimble doesn't expect is having to share a bed with someone he knows very well.
'Till Death Do Us Part
Kate is left reeling when she possibly has to charge a 14 year old in a a domestic murder-suicide case. And Trimble investigates the death of an elderly man, whose body was found in the backyard of a neighbor whom he has had a feud with for over 20 years.
Blood Sport
Trimble investigates the death of a boxer who died when making a comeback. Kelso confides in Kate about his marital problems, and Julia is forced to work with her old pathology boss.
Final Demand
A former colleague of McLeod is taken hostage by a farmer facing repossession. A clash between Kelso and Mills could lead to uncertainty in Kate's future. And, with the discovery of bones, Trimble may be able to put an end to the unanswered death of a young girl.
