Det. Peters, concerned about his divorce, decides to resign from the force. He then meets up with Denis Marshall, an alcoholic whose own marriage is threatened. Peters tries to help Denis, and discovers his own domestic situation is not as bad as he thought.

Carol Hayes is prepared to break the law in order to keep 7-year-old Ronnie whom she has been caring for. The child belongs to the Turners, and Jean Turner wants him back because her husband Mike is being released from jail.

A series of expert safe breakings leads the Yarra Central detectives into an industrial espionage plot.
