Biography

Andreas Antonius Maria (Dries) van Agt (Geldrop, 2 February 1931 – Nijmegen, 5 February 2024) was a Dutch jurist, professor, politician, and diplomat. He served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands in three consecutive cabinets from 19 December 1977 to 4 November 1982. Prior to that, he was Minister of Justice. After his premiership, he became, among other things, an advocate for Palestinian rights, and his views shifted from conservative to much more left-wing.
