João de Deus Trilogy
The “João de Deus Trilogy” is a loose thematic grouping of films by João César Monteiro, consisting of Recollections of the Yellow House (1989), God's Comedy (1995), and The Spousals of God (1999). While not connected through a continuous narrative, the three films follow Monteiro’s recurring alter-ego João de Deus, a provocative, satirical figure navigating desire, morality, and social absurdities in late-20th-century Portugal.
